THE CULTURAL RICHES OF NAN

TUCKED away in the remote north, the tiny provincial capital of Nan, with its population of around 25,000, sees few visitors, yet those who venture there are rewarded with a surprising diversity of cultural riches. Nan’s treasure trove includes superbly crafted Buddha images, vibrant murals and elegant temples. This has led to the province being listed tentatively as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Thipparat boys, girls outscore Bluewater in friendly matches E-mail

The boys and girls of the Thipparat School in Maenam showed more aggressiveness and team work in outscoring their counterparts from Bluewater International School in their friendly match played during the British school’s sports day  held recently at its newly refurbished soccer field.

In the first match the Thai school’s girls’ team and the Bluewater girls actually ended the regular game tied at 1-1 after Thipparat’s No. 17 player scored a goal early in the first half and Bluewater’s striker, who kept on missing the back of the Thipparat goal’s net for most through the first and second half, finally managed to squeeze in a goal after receiving a pass from a corner throw in a few minutes before the end of the second half.

In the ensuing penalty kickoff to decide the winner, however, Thipparat’s goal keeper was able to block all three attempts to score by Bluewater girls while her team mates slammed two goals against the host team’s goal keeper, thus enabling the visiting team to win the friendly game.

The second friendly saw the boys of Bluewater gaining an early lead, 1-0, a few minutes after the game started after one of its forwards scored from half-court and the ball slipped from the hands of the Thipparat goalkeeper and went straight into the net.
The Thai school’s tiny striker, however, immediately made it level at 1-1 after outwitting the Bluewater goal keeper.

Bluewater again managed to score another goal in the first half, but it didn’t take long before a stepped-up attack by the visiting team produced an equalizing goal before the half ended.

In the second half, it was all Thipparat offensive and they scored   two more  goals to make it a 4-2 victory over the hosts.
A crowd made up of parents and faculties from both schools actively watched the two exciting games, and Bluewater Headmaster Jeremy Lees was heard saying they now plan to organize regular friendlies with other schools on the island and even a tournament later on.
