With breaks going their way most of the time, Bamboo Bar dealt host Le Chablis a shocking 6-0 loss in their recent encounter in what may be one of the Chaweng-based team’s most lopsided defeats in the Bangrak Pool League, otherwise known as the “League of the Gentlemen.” Le Chablis, which dished out a big winner in the delicious set of food provided during the break, suffered a series of misfortunes all night long and had only miserable two frames won out of the 18 contested for an embarrassing 16-frame difference. Bamboo Bar team captain Paul started the slaughter of their rivals by blanking Joe, 3-0. The first two games were clearly dominated by Bamboo’s top player, but in the third game Paul missed, making the blue “2” ball to the intended pocket. Joe was about to walk to the table for his turn, but the “2” ball, which was on a slow roll all the way to the side pocket, went in, leaving Paul with another shot to the last, “8” ball, which was aligned straight to the cue ball for an easy shot and a third win. Richard, who has been struggling with his games all season long for Bamboo Bar, followed suit with a 2-1 win over the usually strong play of Le Chablis’ Ken in the second singles. Ken actually took the first game after Richard committed a foul. Ken cleared the table with a run out of his last five balls starting with the easy “15” ball, a neat shot on the “14” ball rolling along the cushion going straight to the corner pocket, then calmly sank the “11” ball before executing a very thin cut on the “13” ball that went in and scored the first point for the home team after sinking the “8” ball. Ken, however, accidentally sank the “8” ball after an exchange of turns at the table and, in the deciding third game, kept on missing on his turns at the table and lost. Bamboo Bar’s continually improving Steve then surprised Hong Kong in the last singles match, posting a 2-1 win for the visiting team and its fourth straight in the night. The last doubles was no different as the pair of Hong Kong and Ken lost all three games to the doubles team of Paul and Pat. |
