Just a five-minute walk to the beach and about 5-10 minutes to all the popular nightspots, Wave Samui is one of the few original backpacker locales left on Chaweng. It has morphed into a great place, thanks to owners Dave and Pete, Brit guys with zip experience who discovered the place by accident and took it on five years ago. The bar opened in early July 2003 and the kitchen one month later. Everything, including the kitchen and toilets, is spotless. The rooms are clean and kept at Thai price. A recent visitor, Jamie Walsh, had this to say about The Wave, as posted in the Samui Forum: “Any travelers backpacking or holidayers should know this place is the best for food, drink, and information and above all friendliness. It’s run by a couple of English guys who will help you on any problems you have. The food is a wicked blend of Thai and Western at great cheap prices. They’re the kind of people that keep a book shop to help the Dog Rescue Samui organization and seem to have a little animal rescue going on themselves with stray adorable dogs.” Another guest, Brendan Clarkson, wrote: “One of the most relaxed bars in the world, and without a doubt, meeting the owners was one of the biggest pleasures of being on the island. |
