AN influential life change was facing Dan Riordan, part-time Samui resident and owner of a Northern California swimming pool maintenance company with over 600 loyal customers.

A San Francisco native, Dan was part of startup teams for four companies in the US. Three of these companies are in the Silicon Valley and the fourth is a swimming pool-maintenance business.

After building 20 houses on Samui, you’d think he’d relax and enjoy his “place in the sun.” The likable local has been in Northern California and on Samui for some years, running his swimming pool company and feeling pretty comfortable about his life.

However, earlier this year while at a pool tradeshow in Las Vegas, he came across an amazing product known as PoolRx System. The literature stated that the product was environmentally friendly and would reduce chlorine and other chemical usage by up to 75 percent, and save money, maintenance time and energy. It promised to keep pool and spa water clearer and was even approved by the exacting US Environmental Protection Agency. Unbelievable? That was exactly what Dan thought. He then decided to meet with the inventor of PoolRx, who told him that the product even works wonders with fountains, spas and other water facilities.

Dan first tested the product on his own pools, only to discover that “it really worked!” Within a month he had it in all of the 600 pools managed by his company. He says he was astounded when pool owners called to thank him. He was very pleased to see he needed to place significantly fewer chemicals in the pools, the pumps ran much less, and he saved a lot of time on maintenance.

Returning to Samui on one of his trips, he decided to team up with longtime island friend Alan Kelso and bring the product to Asia. “I knew it worked for the pools I managed,” stated Dan, “and knew it was already improving over 50,000 pools in the United States.”

Dan enlisted the aid of another Samui resident, Marco Maki, who said, “I was semi-retired here, running my businesses in Beijing. I really wasn’t looking for a new business venture. But out of curiosity and because I know that Dan is a straight shooter, I tried PoolRx. I have had many startup businesses, but I had never seen anything like this product.  It sells itself.”
Marco’s wife, Nicole, laughed and shook her head as she exclaimed, “Marco promised me he was in semi-retirement and at first I nearly locked him in the house when he told me he wanted to get involved in the new venture. But later we both agreed there was no way not to be part of it!"

Now a team of three, they added part-time Samui resident and commercial television producer Rob Newman to their marketing team. Before getting involved, Rob let his pool man go as he was doing a poor job. "The only way I could have ensured I could have gotten my old pool man to my villa enough was to tell him there was a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label kept permanently in the deep end of my pool for him," Rob laughed. "I then added PoolRx, changed the pool man, and the pool's looked fantastic ever since."

To round out the team, Marco brought in the marketing agency and publishing company of Ingmar Mier and Rico Stapel.  A friend called the team of Dan, Alan, Marco, Rob, Ingmar and Rico “The Six Amigos,” a name that has stuck.

What will you find in such a miracle product? Dan responds, “It’s a patented mineral-based system the size of your hand that gets dropped into the basket of your pool. The natural PoolRx minerals are completely invisible to the pool user, dissolving fast and working 24 hours a day to kill bacteria, algae and viruses while keeping the pool crystal clean.

“Just leave the small unit in the pool’s pump basket and the minerals get recharged every time they pass the unit. One unit can last to up to a full year, and additional supplemental minerals are available separately.”

Dan continues, “We’ve been up and running for over three months now in Thailand, and we’re already in all of the residences managed by Phuket Pools and Villas. We’re in use at the Anantara, the Sheraton, the Banyan Tree, the Centara Phuket, Nikki Beach and many more.

“I have been selling to the Asian market for 20 years, but I have never seen a more exciting opportunity in my career. The other great thing about being involved with this product is that it has had an amazing impact on my life so far. I have become friends with so many people over the last few months and we are able to make so many people happy.”

Dan jokes that The Six Amigos have some of their most enjoyable business meetings while in the pool at Nikki Beach on Sundays. “How many other folks can say they’re in a business meeting while in a pool with a Mojito in one hand? We can!” he says.
