THE CULTURAL RICHES OF NAN

TUCKED away in the remote north, the tiny provincial capital of Nan, with its population of around 25,000, sees few visitors, yet those who venture there are rewarded with a surprising diversity of cultural riches. Nan’s treasure trove includes superbly crafted Buddha images, vibrant murals and elegant temples. This has led to the province being listed tentatively as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Businessman loses Bt500k to woman in sex-for-debt scheme
By Administrator

A 65-YEAR-OLD Thai businessman has told police  a woman he took to a hotel robbed him of about Bt500,000 in cash and valuables.

The businessman, identified only as Yo, of Prachuap Kirikhan province, said that late last month 42-year-old Saowanee Duangjan, 42, of Hau Toei, Pun Pin, Suratthani, offered sex as payment for her Bt4,000 debt.

Yo said they checked in at 99 Hotel on Bon Kai Road in Bophut.

Before they could have sex, the woman allegedly covered the victim’s nose with a handkerchief filled with nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, which rendered him unconscious.

When he came to, Yo said, he had lost Bt104,300 in cash, a gold necklace, a gold ring, a watch and amulets.
All in all, he lost Bt491,800, he said.

Police investigators asked the hotel to check the hotel’s CCTVs, which could have recorded the movements of Saowanee and her 22-year-old son, Ekkachai Daungjan, said to have rented another room in the hotel that day.

The police are looking into the possibility that mother and son conspired to rob Yo.

Yo is known to often carry with him cash and valuables which he uses to bet in buffalo fights.

Arrest warrants are out for both mother and son who are charged with stealing.
