DAYS after the arrest of Coco Group director Boonruen Boonsong, another director of the financially beleaguered group of companies surrendered to the Khun Thale police in Suratthani on June 3. Bruce Phillip Sutherland surrendered two days after the Suratthani Provincial Court issued three warrants of apprehension against him. Sutherland has been charged with several cases of labor fraud, and was held for a short period to effect arrest formalities, before being released on a bail of Bt180,000. He will appear in court in July, and police and Labor Department officials are investigating more allegations of labor fraud and related charges. The police, meanwhile, are hunting for the two remaining Coco Group directors, Mrs. Mali Sadd and Alan Edward Sadd, both with outstanding arrest warrants, also for alleged labor fraud. The cases against them stemmed from complaints by some 150 Coco workers who claimed that they had not been paid their salaries. |
