Tourists and locals initially tried to drive the dolphin back to the water. But could hardly move. Mrs. Sukanya Phetkaew, owner of Chaweng Garden Beach resort, said as far as she could remember, it was the first time that a dolphin was washed ashore in Chaweng.
Sometime back, she said, a dolphin was found near the ferry pier on the western part of the island. Volunteers from the Koh Samui Rescue asked Thaweechok Phuriphan, managing director of Samui Aquarium, to take the dolphin under the aquarium’s care till it was strong enough to be released back to the sea. Latest reports said the dolphin ultimately died at Samui Aquarium from internal injuries. – |
