THE CULTURAL RICHES OF NAN

TUCKED away in the remote north, the tiny provincial capital of Nan, with its population of around 25,000, sees few visitors, yet those who venture there are rewarded with a surprising diversity of cultural riches. Nan’s treasure trove includes superbly crafted Buddha images, vibrant murals and elegant temples. This has led to the province being listed tentatively as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

GETTING the right contractor to build your home or offices can sometimes be a daunting task, but right here on the island is an experienced and professional construction team founded in the United Kingdom way back in 1989. In 2003 Tropical Creative Construction set up operations here jointly with a European and Bangkok-based architectural firm and a Thai construction company.

Its director, Matthew Winter, has completed a seven-year course in England, obtaining skills in project management, carpentry, joinery, brick laying, stone masonry, antique restoration, and pool and spa construction.

The English builder has had 21 years of experience in house construction and development from period-house restoration to flat conversion, new house construction, and converting redundant warehouses into modern luxury apartments and office spaces in Europe, Asia and Australia.

At Tropical Creative Construction, Winter has assembled an experienced team of talented professionals in order to achieve the highest quality in luxury living.

“My vision is to bring the ultimate in design and quality construction while preserving as much of the natural surroundings and beautiful landscapes on the island of Samui,” Winter says.

He says the company’s mission is to raise the standard of professionalism and quality of luxury living on this paradise island.

“We do the job once and right and do not waste people’s money,” the builder says, adding that they don’t cut trees and do very environmentally friendly work.“We do work much cheaper but is of very high quality,” he emphasizes.

At present, “we’re also doing a lot of swimming-pool repairs and renovations.”
He prides in their honest dealings with their clients. “We make our customers understand if work is going to be ok and we also tell them frankly if it cannot be done,” Winter explains.

Winter says they only use quality materials in their projects and that the company has a transport license to purchase materials out of Suratthani province.

Winter, who has a lovely Thai wife and a 9-month old daughter, Molly, says Tropical Creative Construction also does accountancy services.

“We produce relevant paperwork, to help the owner in case they want to resell their property,” he says. “This is our way of doing things professionally and making our clients satisfied.”
