MCOT board chairman Surapon Nitikraipoj on Tuesday [July 21] said the board agreed unanimously to appoint Mr. Tanawat, who is the sole candidate named by the selection committee from 20 applicants, to head the mass media organization. “A committee tasked to negotiate remuneration will be set up. Upon completion of the negotiation, his name will be proposed to the Finance Ministry, the company’s major shareholder, and other shareholders for consideration and approval. After that, the board will convene the meeting to appoint him officially. It is expected the process will be completed by September,” Mr. Surapon said.
Tanawat pledged before the board to apply the new media, develop MCOT into a modern media organization, encourage joint ventures and enhance its human resources capability. The board said it believed that Tanawat had substantial experience, knowledge and skills in the mass media profession although he is only 37 years old. Tanawat obtained his bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of California at Los Angeles and MBA from Sasin Graduate School of Management, Chulalongkorn University. He worked for Asia media giant STAR Group as vice president in charge of regional development in Southeast Asia in 1997-2003. He was managing director of Channel V Thailand in 2000-03 before joining Top Corp International Co. as managing director in 2003-06. At present, he is a senior advisor at Lumina-Looque International Pte. Ltd. and a senior advisor on business development at Kantana Group Plc. — TNA |
